When
Reward Cards Don't Pay |
 |
| Whether it's cash
back, airline miles, or savings for
college, reward
credit cards have their appeal. After
all, who doesn't want to get
paid to shop? It's like free money.
Unfortunately, reward credit cards are
not for everybody.
First
of all, who should avoid reward cards?
If you tend to carry a balance from
month to month, then in this instance,
reward cards are probably not for you.
This is because reward cards do tend
to have a slightly higher interest rate
than some other credit cards, so if
you don’t pay your balance off
in full every month, the interest charged
will probably outweigh the benefits.
.
However, if you pay off the full balance
at the end of the month (and therefore
interest rates are not a concern) then
it will certainly be worth your while
looking for a reward credit card. Choose
one that gives you benefits that you
will actually use. For example, if you
are a keen traveller, one that offers
double airmiles or free travel insurance
will have some value for you. Or, there
are cards that will offer a free extended
warranty on the purchase of some electrical
goods and ones that a give percentage
of your spend back.
If
you are looking how to make the most
out of your loyalty reward card as opposed
to your reward credit card, the see
on in our newsletter….

Making
the most of your loyalty card… |
 |
|
Loyalty reward cards are the cards that
stores (such as Sainsburys, Tescos,
Boots etc) offer you as a reward (and
as an incentive!) for shopping with
them. They should not be confused with
reward credit cards!
Loyalty
schemes can sometimes be confusing,
as providers offer different ‘rewards’.
However, there are ways you can make
the most of your loyalty cards –
it’s just about taking a bit of
time out to investigate who offers what
and how you can get the maximum benefit!
For
example, with a Boots Advantage Card,
you get 4 points for every £1
you spend on non-prescription stuff
such as toiletries, cleaning products
etc. If you are a Tesco Clubcard holder,
you get 1 point for every £1 spent
and, for Nectar cardholders, you get
2 points for every £1 spent.
So,
even by changing the way you shop just
for essentials (such as toothpaste,
deodorant, even sunglasses), you can
max out on points! For example, if you
spend £25 on toiletries in Boots,
you’ll get 100 points compared
to 25 points in Tescos and 50 on your
Nectar Card!
Also,
with all loyalty cards, look out for
special in-store promotions, such as
‘Buy 2 and get an extra 100 points
free’. Your points will soon tot
up!
