Be (at least!) £3000 richer by the end of the year without even trying!Did you know that all of us have the potential to be richer, no matter what we earn and whether or not we are our own boss? You really can build a fortune just from saving a few pounds a day – but how?

Two exciting books have just hit my desk that are full of inspiring and realistic ways in which to save – and even make – money.

The Automatic Millionaire by David Bach and The Money Diet, by leading UK finance journalist Martin Lewis are both worth a read.

The Money Diet shows you simple yet very effective ways on how to save money, as well as empowering you to take control of your finances. It claims that an average UK family could save £3000 annually without changing their lifestyle!

And follow just one of the principles in The Automatic Millionaire and you could be over £700 richer at the end of the year without really trying! For example, on your way to work, do you buy a cup of coffee and breakfast, or maybe a newspaper or magazine?

That daily cup of coffee and a bun is probably costing you an average of £3.00 a day – or £15 a working week.

That’s £60 a month - or £720 a year – that you could be making money on elsewhere, perhaps in a high interest earning bank account? Follow this pattern for five years and even without adding interest, you could save £3,600!

Imagine how much money you could be sitting on if you cut out other stuff. For example, if spend £5 a day on cigarettes you could be saving £1,825 a year – or over £9,000 in just five years – but cutting them out!

These books are both packed full with ways on how to save – and make money, without you even really having to try too hard!

Why it pays to shop around for motor insurance

We’ve all heard the term “shop around” when buying a product or service. However, while many of us feel we don’t have the time or resources to do this, it really is true that a failure to shop around is the single biggest reason we overpay on car insurance.

So why is shopping around so important? Because the price of car insurance is decided by the behaviour of all drivers as a whole. Insurance companies take the cost of all drivers’ claims and divide it up among all drivers.

But the cost isn't spread around evenly. On no! Instead, the percentage you pay is decided by things like your driving record, your age, where you live, and the kind of car you drive.

Of course, not all insurance companies figure their percentages the same way. So some will charge different rates on the same driver. So what this means for you as a driver, is that you need to shop around for the different rates (which could be very different from insurer to insurer) to get the best deal.

While this may sound tiresome, it really can save you pounds and can be done simply and easily online, without taking up too much precious time. For example, by using a car insurance search service such as the one at MotorCarLoans you simply give your details just once and the service visits over 50 UK direct insurers and brokers websites. The most competitive quotes are then brought back in real time.
